Learn why scientists study ecosystems and then study an area of your own, recognize what it takes for a species to become extinct and how we can prevent it. Step into the shoes of an animal behaviorist to answer some questions about wildlife conservation. On Friday, we will visit Hugh Taylor Birch State Park and learn about the park’s conservation efforts! July 2 – 6 POKÉMON SCIENCE Group Name: Gym Leaders Are you ready to become a Pokémon science gym leader?! This week is all about connecting Pokémon concepts with science concepts! Learn how Magnemite uses magnetism and Electabuzz uses electricity to win Pokémon battles, then we’ll take the concepts further by learning how it is used in engineering and technology projects around the world! July 9 – 13 ALL ABOUT ANIMALS Group Name: River Otters (Field Trip Included) If you love animals, this week is for you! Participate in dissection labs to learn about the anatomy and physiology of some of the world’s most interesting animals, discover why animals are placed in different taxonomic groups, and then meet some of the museum’s ambassador animals! On Friday, we will visit Hugh Taylor Birch State Park and learn about the park’s animal residents! July 16 – 20 FULL STEAM AHEAD Group Name: Crazy Chemists It’s time to bring out your creative side, it’s STEAM week! We will be pushing the limits of creativity and encouraging dirty, messy, colorful science! Learn about crystallization while creating colorful crystals of your own, engineer tiny devices that color for you, and play with light and shadows to create beautiful lanterns! July 23 – 27 UNDER THE SEA Group Name: Great Whites (Field Trip Included) This week, we will be learning about everything under the sea! Perform water tests to learn about different ocean properties, participate in marine invertebrate dissections, and learn how ocean acidification works in a chemistry lab! Learn about osmosis and how it affects our red blood cells, discover the power of a neuron and create your own model, then construct a camper-sized anatomy model of everything we’ve learned!
