Museum’s Mission The mission of the Museum of Discovery and Science is to provide experiential pathways to lifelong learning in science for children and adults through exhibits, programs and films. Founded in 1976 as The Discovery Center, the nonprofit facility serves approximately 450,000 visitors each year. © 2018 Museum of Discovery and Science Last year the Museum of Discovery and Science celebrated our 25th anniversary with an opening of a time capsule and opportunity to review the successes of the past quarter century. It’s an absolute honor to join the Museum at a time that we are both celebrating the past and looking forward to an exciting future. I recently moved here from Worcester, Massachusetts where I served as President of the EcoTarium Museum of Science & Nature and, I’m originally from England, so I’m thoroughly enjoying the South Florida sunshine! As I join this exciting team, I’m grateful for the work of the incredible leadership that came before me and would like to recognize the work of Kim Cavendish and her passion for our mission to provide experiential pathways to lifelong learning in science for children and adults through exhibits, programs and film. The coming months are certainly bringing our mission to life – from the opening of the innovative new exhibits, “Science Park” and “Rescue” to community celebrations, expanded partnerships and education programs and of course, a great line up of movies in the AutoNation IMAX 3D Theater. I’m thrilled to be here at the Museum and am looking forward to diving into my new role. In my short time here in South Florida, the generous support from the Board, the staff and volunteers, and the community at large has been inspiring. Together, we will continue to make the Museum of Discovery and Science a cornerstone of our community, a place that inspires discovery and instills a passion for science. Joseph P. Cox President /CEO
