16 MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY AND SCIENCE • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • MAKING AN IMPACT 16 MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY AND SCIENCE • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • During President’s Day Weekend, MODS kicked off its Distinguished Speaker Series, sponsored by Save Our Seas Foundation, which showcases world- famous speakers discussing marine-related topics. It was a weekend packed with events for the opening of the IMAX film, Great Bear Rainforest 3D, and its companion photo exhibit. Throughout the weekend, Museum guests were introduced to the movie by director Ian McAllister, followed by ”Whales of the Great Bear Region” presented by Janie Wray, Lead Researcher and CEO of BC Whales. Guests also enjoyed a VIP experience that included a cocktail reception followed by a fireside chat with Ian McAllister, Janie Wray, MODS President/ CEO Joe Cox, and Michael Scholl, CEO of Save Our Seas Foundation. The evening continued with a special screening of the IMAX film Great Bear Rainforest and slide presentation by McAllister with book signings by both Wray and McAllister. The weekend’s events concluded when Wray treated MODS Camp Discovery to a special presentation in the Keller Science Theater. Distinguished Speaker Series & Great Bear Rainforest 3D film sponsored by: Janie Wray and Ian McAllister greeted guests and autographed their books. Guests got to stuff their own Spirit Bears and take them home. The Great Bear Rainforest companion photo exhibit showcases beautiful stills from the film. The weekend kicked off our new Distinguished Speaker Series.
