Museum’s Mission The mission of the Museum of Discovery and Science is to provide experiential pathways to lifelong learning in science for children and adults through exhibits, programs and films. Founded in 1976 as The Discovery Center, the nonprofit facility serves approximately 450,000 visitors each year. © 2017 Museum of Discovery and Science I am immensely grateful for the privilege of leading the Museum of Discovery and Science and its predecessor, The Discovery Center, through so much, and for so many years. The effort and the vision it has taken to create this museum and bring it to where it is today are shared with many people. Through the years, my museum staff has always given 110% and it is the backbone of the Museum. And I have always been astounded and gratified that so many trustees have given of their time, wealth and devotion to the Museum’s mission, helping to secure its place as a vital and successful institution. As I prepare to retire from my museum career, I know how fortunate I am to be able to see the impact of the Museum’s programs on the young people we serve, to see families enjoying exhibits that I’ve had the joy of shepherding into existence, to know that the Museum fulfills a major role in the community supporting science literacy, tourism, and workforce development. I’m excited that my own last capital initiative, the Science Park, will open in early 2018, ahead of schedule. To my family, your encouragement and confidence have made it possible for me to walk this path. To the hundreds of staff and trustees, both current and former, going back to 1981, I extend a heartfelt “thank you.”
