…the Museum had much to celebrate. After years of anticipation, the design and construction of the Science Park behind the Museum was underway. Colorful full body exhibits were rising in view of Broward Boulevard and geometric shapes could be seen from the Beacon on the museum’s second floor. The new Science Park will open to the public on March 23, 2018. Internal improvements received attention too, with the addition of Power On! a new exhibit in the colorful Storm Center, newly sponsored by Florida Power & Light Company, and the addition of an exhibit about Hurricane Andrew’s impact in Florida, made possible by Florida International University. The restrooms in the older part of the museum facility were gutted and rebuilt, and the old air conditioning and control systems were replaced with new, efficient systems. The Museum continued to operate in the black, producing an operating surplus which is used to maintain a fund for future capital replacements, hurricane repairs, and exhibit development. The Museum is governed by a Board of Trustees that includes some of our community’s most trusted and influential citizens, who spearhead continuing support for the Museum. Our experienced professional staff and many volunteers provide the manpower and expertise to keep the Museum fresh and exciting. As President/CEO and Chairman of the Board, we are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize and to thank the many volunteers, donors and community partners who help the Museum extend its pathways to learning.
