NEWS FLASH!

To Fly – Aviation Exhibit

The highlight of the exhibit space will be a new state-of-the art 7D capsule theater that will take visitors on an exhilarating flight through the sky. This new exhibit experience will use a 3D aviation film, moving seats, and multi-sensory effects to create an unforgettable, educational, and exciting experience. The new look will take shape gradually between August and November and the hall will remain open during this time. The new Simulation Theater is made possible by a generous gift from the Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust.

TO FLY: OUR PLACE IN AEROSPACE

Come explore The Emil Buehler Trust Gallery featuring, To Fly: Our Place in Aerospace, an interactive experience that gives you a better understanding of the importance of space exploration and how scientists learn about our universe. Find out how astronomers use radio waves and light to gather information about the universe, launch a space vehicle, and discover how much force it takes to escape Earth’s gravity. Local support provided by The Emil Buehler Trust and NASA.

Fasten your seat belts and get ready to fly in the new aviation addition in our To Fly: Our place in Aerospace exhibit hall. The 4,000-square-foot addition is the second phase of the exhibit and will provide hands-on, interactive aviation experiences. Visitors will learn how airplanes fly by exploring the forces of flight. Climb into the captain's seat and pretend to fly a real DC-9 commercial airliner or transform yourself into a bird by putting on wings and stepping into a giant wind tunnel so you can see what it feels like to fly! This new addition has been made possible by a generous gift from the Emil Buehler Trust.
Climb into three different replica cockpit simulators and practice your piloting skills by test “flying” the LockHeed Martin F/35 Joint Strike fighter, the newest jet fighter now being developed; the Edge 540, an aerobatic single engine aircraft used in the worldwide Red Bull Air Race; and the Vought F4U Corsair, argued to be one of the finest aircrafts of WWII. These interactive simulators immerse visitors in aviation technology and put them right in the pilot’s seat.

Fly a real, radio controlled helicopter by maneuvering the aircraft with two joysticks. Test your skills and watch the helicopter lift off, hover, fly clockwise and counter clockwise and ultimately land on the helipad.

Ever see a real aircraft engine? Aviation Station Phase Two has two! Get up-close-and-personal with the Pratt & Whitney 985 Bushwacker rotary engine and examine its detail.

Next, head over to the jet engine from an F/14 Tomcat Jet Fighter and study the cutaway illustration that shows the internal workings of the engine.

Fly the state-of-the-art MaxFlight full motion simulator. With 360 – degree pitch, roll and spin technology, visitors will be able to experience adrenaline-filled aerial races and stunt flying!

*Note: You must be at least 48” tall to ride the MaxFlight motion simulator.
