BR WARD PRIDE Transition to Independent Living (TIL) Since 1998 the Museum has taken the lead in hiring disadvantaged high school youth. The current TIL program offers employment and mentorship for young adults, ages 18-23, who are transitioning out of the foster care system and into independent living. MODS continues to be very proud of the successes of TIL program interns. Since the program's inception, MODS has served approximately 79 TIL youth. MODS has hired 7 interns as permanent employees. Others are working at new jobs, in areas such as law, nursing, security, retail, and insurance. Thank you to our partners for their support ensuring the future success of these young adults. The program has been made possible by support from the following Community Foundation of Broward Funds: Richard Frisby and Edward Burkhart Fund, Gay and Lesbian Broward Community Fund, Edwin A. and Jane N. Huston Fund, Everett H. Metcalf, Jr. Unrestricted Fund and Mary N. Porter Community Impact Fund. The program aims to create a more inclusive Museum experience to better serve the community, formulate and enhance inclusivity practices and ultimately improve accessibility along with perceptions of accessibility. The advisory committee will work with Museum staff to create a formal LGBT+ engagement strategy focused on community partnerships, staff training, target marketing and specialized programming and events. With Ignite!, the Museum of Discovery and Science is able to open doors of opportunity for participants interested in space. Thanks to the generosity of the John H. Rau Space Education Fund at Community Foundation of Broward, MODS is also able to provide space themed outreach programing and a field trip to Kennedy Space Center for students in Title One Schools. Partner support provides access to educational experiences for those who otherwise may not be able to afford such opportunities.
